Rainmaker Mountain is one of the last remnants of primary rainforest in the Central Pacific. It is home to 60% of all the flora and fauna species found in Costa Rica. Dedicated to the conservation and protection of the Fila Chonta mountain range on Costa Rica’s Pacific side.

Rainmaker’s unique location places it within the strategic Quepoa Biological corridor. It is our firm commitment to ensure that this area may be enjoyed by future generations to come.

Presumed extinct in Costa Rica, the Harlequin toad (Atelopus varius) has been re-discovered in the Rainmaker Reserve since 2003. The poison toad’s distinctive yellow-and-black markings, believed to ward off predators, once made it easy to identify when the species populated Costa Rican and Panamanian streams.

A scientific team from the University of Yale in collaboration with the Costa Rican Ministry of Forest began a monitoring study in January 2005 in order to determine; the health and size of the population, the reasons for the extinction in other areas, and to understand why this population has survived. The Team also will assess the feasibility of breeding the toad in captivity to try to introduce them again on the old habitats.

The Rainmaker Foundation contributes with the efforts to preserve this toad by a portion of sales through the Rainmaker Gift Shop.

Rainmaker Conservation Project is a privately owned rainforest reserve located in San Rafael Norte. Rainmaker actively supports the teachers and school by providing school supplies and facilitating its resources to the local students as a site for outdoor education classes. We hope that by doing so, we impart the urgency for continued rainforest conservation to those whose everyday existence is threatened by its loss.

The astonishing views of the coastline, mountain streams, waterfalls and the magnificence of its rainforest, makes Rainmaker an essential destination for nature lovers.
